BioFuels and Edible Oil Processing
Erivac provides equipment for a reduced carbon footprint
All over the world governments and companies are looking for ways to become more sustainable and reduce our carbon footprint in order to meet global warming targets. There is a change of paradigms in a process where fossil fuels are being phased out in favor of BioFuels such as HVO, SAF, RME, FAME, and Biodiesel. Processing of these Vegetable Oils and Fatty Acids often have similar to traditional Edible Oil Processing and uses similar and well-known process equipment.
Edible Oil Processing
Edible Oils have their origin from various types of oil seeds, such as: – Soybeans; – Sunflower; – Canola or Rapeseed; – Corn; – Peanut; – Palm; – Olive; – Coconut, etc.
Processing these oil seeds to the edible oils found in supermarkets several process steps are used, such as: – Extraction; – Degumming; – Neutralization; – Bleaching; – Deodorization
For these processes, the following process equipment can be very useful
Ejectors and Vacuum Systems
– Vacuum Ejectors and ThermoCompressors
– Steam Jet Vacuum Systems and Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps
– ICE Condensation Vacuum Systems
Heat Exchangers
– Spiral Heat Exchangers for liquid/liquid applications with dirty or high viscous media as economizers, heaters / coolers, or in two phase applications as condensing or evaporation operations, steam heaters, reboilers, etc.
– Welded Plate Heat Exchangers. These are for applications as above but for less dirty or semi-fouling media.
– Gasketed Plate Heat Exchangers
Filters
– Automatic Filters for protection of heat exchangers and spray nozzles for reduced maintenance necessity and increased plant availability, filtration of raw water and cooling water circuits. If Sea or Brackish Water is used, acting as effective mussels and mussel larvae stop.
BioFuels
The origin of the “new” biofuels, HVO, SAF, RME, FAME etc., are numerous and can be from the same vegetable origin as virgin Edible Oils, reused Edible Oils, Fatty Acids from Pulp and Paper industry as Tall Oil, Oils from the pyrolysis of sawdust or woodchips etc.
As mentioned fro the Edible Oil processing these Biofuels also often require vacuum and heat transfer for processing:
